The Great Escape

A great many readers, myself included, often feel the need to lose themselves in a story that engages them so fully that they are able to escape, albeit only briefly, the drudgery of the real world.

Creating a story capable of doing this is something I hope to achieve through my writing. Though at present, I feel that my writing doesn’t give my readers the escape that they and I hope for.

My wife, a long-time fan of the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling, has often told me that she would much rather live as a squib in the magical world than as a regular person in the muggle world. To be honest with you, so would I. At present, the muggle world isn’t a very nice place to be. The opportunity to escape it, however briefly, would be most welcome, most welcome indeed.

I know I still have a long way to go before I can be considered a great writer like JK Rowling, but I’m still working towards my goal of total engagement with my readers, offering them a chance to lose themselves in a different world. A world filled with all manner of adventures. A world where they can engage fully with my characters and share their trials and their victories, leaving the real world far behind and making a great escape.
